The question was asked: “How would a conservative “fix” America?”
I volunteered my interpretation, and the response has been positive. Several people have said that they wished I was running for office, so they could vote for me.
If only I were old enough to run for congress. Oh well. If I were a month older, I could!
Anyway, this was how I determined conservatives would fix America, despite the fact that most of the ideas here are just as much libertarian as they are conservative, and that there are many flavors of so-called conservatives in today’s America. I don’t claim to speak for any party, or anyone but myself. That’s why I’m an independent.
Bailouts:
No company is too big to fail. Let ‘em die.
Healthcare:
Either cap damages or force losing plaintiffs to pay for all legal fees associated with the case to avoid frivolous lawsuits. Tort reform will lower healthcare costs. Democrats refuse to allow it because they are in the pocket of trial lawyers.
Taxes:
Lower them. Ideally, abolish the IRS and add a national sales tax. Rather than stealing people’s money for hard work, tax luxury items. Food should remain tax-exempt. Much fairer system.
Education:
Abolish the Department of Education. Leave it to the states.
Abortion:
Overturn Roe v. Wade and remove it as a national debate so that we can focus on other issues. It’ll become a statewide issue for them to worry about locally. Illegal in Alabama, perfectly fine in California.
Illegal Immigration:
Have a huge crackdown on employers of illegals. Throw them in jail on their second offense, and when they’re unable to find work, illegals will deport themselves.
Elections:
Abolish term limits for any federal office, and allow immigrants to run for President of the United States.
Religion/Race/Gender/Sexuality:
Abolish federal hate crimes laws, remove affirmative action.
Drugs:
Either make marijuana legal and tax it, or make tobacco illegal. The double-standard is ridiculous, and unnecessary. Stoners are harmless, and marijuana is far from a dangerous drug. I don’t smoke anything, but the way we treat people who do is offensive. Cigarette smokers are treated like criminals despite the high taxes they’re forced to pay.
